SKEMA alumnus Matthieu Ventelon makes the most of Win in Xuzhou contest

Win in Xuzhou, the largest entrepreneurial event in the city, was held at Xuzhou High-Tech Zone, Kuitu Haichuang Chuangchuang Space Road Show Hall, on October 30. The event was hosted by the Xuzhou Talent Work Leading Group Office and the Xuzhou Innovation and Entrepreneurship Guiding Committee Office, and co-organized by CRESCENDERS Incubator. Matthieu Ventelon, an alumnus of SKEMA Business School’s MSc Entrepreneurship and Innovation 2017 batch from the Suzhou Campus, was invited by CRESCENDERS Incubator, SKEMA Ventures’ partner in China, to the event. It gave him the opportunity to connect with potential partners and a potential investor from CRESCENDERS’s professional network.

To enable Matthieu to communicate easily with the audience and juries, CRESCENDERS provided him with a translator. Besides him, six other speakers presented their entrepreneurial idea. He began by explaining, in brief, his education and work experiences at SKEMA Business School and Bottles XO. He then presented his “French Etiquette Training” project HEDONIA by demonstrating how to set the table and taste the wine. The jury members showed great interested in his project and one of them, Jiachuan WANG, vice president of the technology department of Xuzhou National Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, expressed his interest in connecting Matthieu to a professional in the wine industry in Xuzhou.

At the end of his presentation, when Matthieu mentioned his financial needs, Haiyan Huang, Director of Bank of Xuzhou’s Jianxi Sub-Branch of Jiangsu, explained to Matthieu the financial options available to a French entrepreneur in China. Another member of the jury, Yao Chen, vice president of Huaihai Economic Zone Branch of China’s Quality Research Institute, also expressed his interests in HEDONIA.

To help Matthieu with his business development plan, CRESENCEDERS also organized a meeting between him and a local entrepreneur, Lu XIA, which focused on delivering high-quality lifestyle services through the O2O model.

Talking about his experience at the event, Matthieu said: “Being one of the few SKEMA alumni from the 2017 batch who are still in China, I have always been in contact with CRESCENDERS’ founder Chali Zhou. He is well connected in Shanghai and being part of his network has helped me a lot. I am already looking forward to returning to Xuzhou to initiate local partnerships and explore more business opportunities!”
