PRESS RELEASE
Second edition of SKEMA Ventures’ Startup Kafé held at SKEMA’s Sophia Antipolis, Lille and Paris campuses.

SKEMA Ventures aims at helping, supporting and coaching future entrepreneurs, whether they are the B-School’s students or alumni.

When working on a project, the first step often involves talking about it in order to get help or observing stakeholders’ reactions. It is in this spirit that the second edition of SKEMA Ventures’ Startup Kafé took place on February 12, 2018, at SKEMA’s Sophia Antipolis, Lille, and Paris campuses.

The event was interspersed by several rounds of business pitches by students. The challenge for them was to present the main idea of their project within a maximum of two minutes. The event was divided into three rounds and each round saw around 4 teams presenting their business pitch. At the end of every round was a 15-minute break where the team members and the audience got a chance to interact with each other, ask for help or receive advice. Before the start of the next round, SKEMA alumni spoke about their venture to the audience and shared their experiences.

Startup Kafé: Business Ideas

Deborah offered an application that can connect people with tailors; Morgane and Lauryn presented their idea of developing smart jars that allow one to buy unpackaged products in order to reduce waste; Thomas and Valentin showcased an electronic components’ kit that allows people to create their own games. All of them shared their enthusiasm and spoke on what they are passionate about.

At SKEMA’s Lille campus, sixteen projects were presented. Fourteen of them came from the “SKEMA community” while the other two were presented by a graduate from Centrale Lille and two engineering students of the CESI. Both the institutes are partners of SKEMA. Xavier Trub, founder of the website gourmanding.com and Radouane El Argoubi, founder of “Souk”, shared their entrepreneurial experience, too.

During the event, project owners were given the opportunity to apply to The Venture Factory to benefit from the advantages that the incubation facility SKEMA Ventures offers.

The Startup Kafé will be now be held at SKEMA’s international campuses where alumni and students will be able to showcase their projects. The event will take place in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, around the end of February; Suzhou, China in March and Raleigh, USA, in April.
