SKEMA Ventures Raleigh students prepare to pitch

The SKEMA Ventures club at SKEMA’s Raleigh campus held its first event on September 5 – a workshop on “How to deliver a 2-minute pitch” or “Prepare to pitch”. The objective was to help students get ready for the upcoming Startup Kafe event on September 11.

During the workshop, over 20 students shared their diverse business venture ideas. This was followed by a discussion on why entrepreneurs pitch, which ended in the conclusion that it helps them to test their concept, attract others to join them or raise funds for their venture. The participants explored three models or frameworks for pitching: the elevator pitch, storytelling, and question-driven. They also learnt how these frameworks can be woven into a single pitch.

After a brief lecture that included a popular template, the participants jumped into the challenge for the evening:  developing a two-minute pitch for their idea. They formed their pitch based on a template and practised delivering it to a partner. After receiving feedback, general observations and learnings were shared.

Then, the floor was opened to any student who wanted to deliver his/her pitch to the whole group. The excellent pitches from those who took the challenge enabled the participants to get a live demonstration of the different frameworks.

The workshop wrapped up with the participants looking forward to pitching at the Startup Kafe and wishing each other good luck!
